NTL AND EVISA

Post by ederson231 » Fri Mar 21, 2025 12:40 pm

I’m seeking clarification regarding eVisas and No Time Limit (NTL) applications.

The individual was granted Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE) in 2016.
They submitted an NTL application last year, which was approved, and they were issued an eVisa.
The eVisa displays an expiry date in April 2025.

Do eVisas update automatically after the expiry date, or does the individual need to submit another NTL application to renew the eVisa?

ILR is a permanent status and has no expiry. An NTL is just used to confirm your immigration status so that you can get access to an eVisa. A further NTL application should not be necessary at all when you already been issued an eVisa with a UKVI account. Any errors should be reported to the eVisa team

The BRP came with an expiry date ten years after the date it was issued to them which is also reflected in the evisa. I know ILE does not expire and there is no error with the dates. If there were still BRPs an NTL application would need to be submitted. I wish to know whether this is the same with evisas or will it update automatically.

Thanks

I think you should apply for another one. Virtually everything expires after 10 years ( Drivers license, Passport). Even though the status NTL hasn't expired, the means to prove that status would lapse.
People change significantly after 10 years, hence the government likes to update their database.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Having to apply for NTL again and again defeats the purpose of an eVisa system. If an eVisa ends up matching the expiry of an old document, then everyone who had a ILR BRP with an expiry date of 31 Jan 2024 should have an expired eVisa which makes no sense. UKVI in fact allows people with expired ILR BRP to apply for an eVisa. As ILR has no expiry date, someone with settled status should not have an eVisa with an expiry date
