fiancée visa can it be done?

Post by t8769 » Fri Jun 10, 2005 5:02 pm

Hi,

My girlfriend's just finishing her student visa, she's been studying here.

Is it possible for us to get a fiance visa, so she can stay here.

Am I right in thinking that a defacto visa isn't possible because we can legally marry?

How easy is the fiance visa, and much does it cost and how long does it take.

I'd appreciate any info.

Thanks!

Before answering your specific queries, can I ask these questions, namely :-
  1. Your fiancée's student visa .... was it issued for a period exceeding six months duration?
  2. Are there more than three months left on that visa?
If the answer to both of those questions is Yes then I would suggest, forget the fiancée visa and instead she should apply for a Certificate of Approval to Marry ("CoA"). Once that is granted the two of you can then marry in the UK, and following the marriage she can then apply for a spouse visa in the UK.
