Applying British Passport -Pros and cons

Post by Padmalatha » Fri Apr 25, 2025 9:42 am

Hi All,
Hope everyone is glad on this Friday.
I have been a resident of UK since past 15 years, moved to UK in 2010 after marriage as a dependent of my husband. We got the ILR in 2012 and my husband has since applied for British passport, while I remained on ILR till date.
My query is - im contemplating to apply for British passport and would like to hear from the members what are the pros and cons of giving up the Indian passport.
It is my long term goal to move back to India probably in 15/20 years time. So in this context, is it worth applying for British passport?
Looking forward to hear your thoughts on this topic.
Kind Regards,
Padmalatha

You need to naturalise as British before being eligible for a British passport.
This query is better suited for the Other countries forum as it involves consequences of giving up Indian citizenship rather than how to obtain British citizenship.
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.
