Citiznship Questions

Post by lightbulb1 » Sun May 11, 2025 7:05 pm

Dear Board Members,

Thank you for your continued support. I am preparing to submit my British citizenship application and would appreciate clarification on a few points:

1. Regarding the requirement for "proof of living in the UK for 5 years if applying in your own right": I currently hold ILR. Since 2024, my passport has not been stamped upon re-entry due to the e-visa system. Is ILR alone sufficient to prove residence, or should I submit additional evidence such as P60s, and what if someone cannot provide P60?

2. Can an IT Specialist serve as a professional referee? I understand IT professionals may be eligible if they qualify as engineers, but does the individual need to be registered with a specific professional body ( and what it is if known)?

3. Would it be acceptable or advisable to include a personal cover letter expressing my motivation to become a British citizen as part of the application, or is this generally discouraged?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

UKVI can access the Home Office travellers databases. That replaces the need for stamped passports.

See the list of "acceptable" professions here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... als_v4.pdf
If you find a "chartered" professional they should tell you if they are!

3. Would it be acceptable or advisable to include a personal cover letter expressing my motivation to become a British citizen as part of the application, or is this generally discouraged?
You don't need to convince or plead with UKVI to be approved - what counts is that you comply with the statutory requirement. They are set out in the AN guidance. The application requires a minimum of documents.

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Thank you for your reply and time! So just to be sure, ILR is enough without any additional documents even though my passport stopped being stamped since 2024?

Yes - your passport is linked to the evisa system and they can match your travels since the implementation. Clearly you still provide a copy to cover stamps pre-evisa.
