Dear Moderators,
I was born in Durham, UK, in 1989, and have an official UK birth certificate confirming this. However, my Iraqi passport lists my place of birth as Iraq.
This discrepancy occurred because, during a period of political conflict, the authorities in my home country recorded my place of birth incorrectly for safety and administrative reasons. My parents did not make this decision — the issuing authority imposed it
And I have recently received MY ILR.
I have supporting evidence:
UK birth certificate
My mother’s passport shows legal entry to the UK in 1985
Note of UK birth added to my mother's passport, added in 1989 at the Iraqi consulate in London.
I’m now correcting the record and preparing to apply for British citizenship
Questions:
Will this conflict in birthplace records affect my application for British citizenship?
Is a clear explanation letter sufficient, or should I provide a statutory declaration?
Appreciate any advice or experience on this.
Thanks
