Citiznship Questions

Post by lightbulb1 » Mon May 26, 2025 7:02 pm

Hello,

Thank you for the continued support from this wonderful community.

I would like to clarify a few points regarding the British citizenship application and first passport process:
  • Q1 Can both of our referees (for two adults and two children) be described as family friends/friends? Both individuals are professionals.
  • Q2: Is it acceptable to digitally fill in the names, dates, and other details on the referee form before printing it, leaving only the signature field for the referee to sign by hand? We would also be attaching a printed photo as required. Any other advice regarding refree form?
  • Q3:Can the same referee be reused for the first British passport application after naturalisation, assuming they meet the criteria for both purposes?
Thank you in advance!

yes, as long as one is on the official professional list and the other is British and over 25.
  • Q2: Is it acceptable to digitally fill in the names, dates, and other details on the referee form before printing it, leaving only the signature field for the referee to sign by hand? YesWe would also be attaching a printed photo as required. no need to attach it physically, jut add it digitally to the formAny other advice regarding refree form?

Actually one more question: Can I re-use the photo I used in the naturalisation refree form for the passport too?

In principle the passport picture should be taken in the month before applying. Though I don't see them checking you used the same. You can take these pictures by yourself though, I did it and cropped them and didn't need to pay a photographer.

Dear Valued Members,

I have a few further questions:
  • If a family member was born abroad and their place of birth is shown as a country code (e.g. “IT”) and country name (e.g. “Italy”) on the birth certificate, should I enter that value as-is, or is it necessary to provide the actual city of birth, even if it is not mentioned on the birth certificate? A friend mentioned that they were contacted and asked to provide the specific city. Does the same apply for other entries such as spouse’s or parents’ town of birth?
  • Regarding the referee form: can the uploaded version be in black and white, or is it preferable that the referee signs and submits it in colour?
  • If employed in two jobs do you need to mention the second one in a cover letter as there was no option to add it or is it not relevant?
Thank you for your help.

Where it asks for place of birth enter exactly the town or village - note the application doesn't require your birth certificate. Note that the certificate and also your British passport will show place of birth name.
  • Regarding the referee form: can the uploaded version be in black and white, or is it preferable that the referee signs and submits it in colour?
Can be B/W or colour as long as it's legible. There is no specific preference for this.
  • If employed in two jobs do you need to mention the second one in a cover letter as there was no option to add it or is it not relevant?
There's no guidance for this, so perhaps a covering note is good. Employment as such is not a requirement so perhaps
for peace of mind include a note.

Awesome, thank you.

One last question ( I hope :D ): If a refree is in the process of renewing the passport (already applied to renew it) can I still use their passport number or do I have to delay my application until they receive it?

Thank you in advance!

Actually another question, sorry about the hassle.

It says on the form "Place of birth
Enter your place of birth (for example, the city or province), as shown on your passport or travel document."

So the place of birth is written as the country code in the passport, for example IT. Should I still write it as the passport or should i write the actual city (even though it is not written on passport of birth certificate)?

Place of birth in a British passport is a Town/City/Village name, not a country, same goes for birth certificates ....
If you write Italy they'll likely come back and ask for the place name, so you could address this up front, by stating your actual place of birth.
And it's not something your application would be refused on.

Best to use their new passport. Receiving a renewed British passport only takes a week or two.

Many thanks!

I am finalising the application, but though to get a second opinion: If my position changed within the company, and I became an office holider do I put my start date as the first date I joined the company or is it asking for the start date of the current role/title? (I believe it is the date I joined, but just double checking)

Start of employment with company, not start of new position.

You guys are amazing! I think this is my last question: I have used the UK ID app for the extension application. Do I answer
Were your fingerprints taken as part of this application
as "No" for that part of Immigration details? Just want to confirm that point

I think the question is asking whether you went for a biometric appointment. If you used teh app, select No.

I am grateful for your help. Thank you. Also, my child has the same refrees as me, but I do not intend to write a cover letter to explain why there is not a refree that dealt with her in professional capacity. Is that fine, or is it required to write a cover letter?
