Schengen VISA - EEA FAMILY MEMBER

Post by Cervani2 » Tue Jun 03, 2025 2:38 pm

Hello,
I’m an EEA citizen living in the UK with my Filipino spouse, who has EUSS settled status ( e-visa now)

She had an EU Settlement Scheme Biometric Residence Card (BRC) valid until October 2024.
We’ve applied for Schengen visas as an EEA family member via the German Embassy for years, getting multi-entry visas (6 months or 1 year), with the last one valid for 4 months until October 2024 (BRC card expiration day).

In June 2025, with her BRC expired and only digital EUSS online settled status/BRP, we applied for a Schengen visa, submitting my EEA passport, marriage certificate, itinerary, and EUSS proof share code.

The German Embassy issued a 7-day(travel period), single-entry visa, unlike previous multi-entry visas.

IS there any change please in the way how FAMILY MEMBERS are treated ?
Thank you for any info.

Hi,

Are you a German national?
I believe they gave you the exact dates you asked for. That's a reminder to you, they don't want you to use them for just short visits to schengen zone. Try other schengen embassies next time (France or Portugal).

hi thanks for you reply.

No, I am not German.

We chose the German embassy because they kindly explained by email how the EEA family member Schengen visa works. And we did plan to go to Stuttgart.

The first time (2022), we provided exact dates for an 8-day trip and requested a single-entry visa, but we received a six-month, multiple-entry visa.

I was worried that because she doesn’t have an EU settlement BRC card, they might not honor the digital e-visa/settled status granted by the UK or that some law had changed regarding this.

Apparently, it was just the individual opinion of an embassy worker.

Regarding travel, we travel to EU twice a year for 2-4 weeks.

The visa in my wife’s passport offers flexibility.
However, the longest time we spent was in Italy for two weeks.

Oh well, it’s just the application cost + passport return fee = £50.

We’ll try again in July. Maybe we’ll include a looooonger stay in the application. 😊
