Status of eVisa after ceremony

Post by has2025 » Wed Jun 11, 2025 9:29 pm

Hi All - trust you're all well.

My wife was just granted British Citizenship :) :) :) - off course we need to book ceremony within 3 months. We already booked a holiday with our kids (as always nothing is refundable these days especially flights) so I just wanted to confirm with certainty that as soon as she attends ceremony is given the certificate of naturalisation, eVisa / ILR to prove immigration status is no longer valid - meaning if we travel out and upon return the foreign country won't let us travel to the UK as the Share Code (eVisa) would not valid? and if that's the case we our travel and the duration is all together less than 3 months would it be safer to attend ceremony only after return?

Thanks.

Yes it is probably better to attend the ceremony after return. Though, even if you do before I don't think the evisa updates so quickly so you might get a grace period when she can board a flight with her registered passport.
Upon arrival to the UK she should be able to use her certificate though it may cause delay.

Strongly advise against travelling before securing a UK passport as you may be denied boarding. We can't rely on the eVisa system not being updated. Best to attend the ceremony after your return.
