ILR application and upcoming travel before 5 year completion

Post by rylandgrace » Thu Jul 03, 2025 11:09 pm

I’ll complete 5 years on August 28th since my Skilled Worker visa was granted on 28 August 2020 (that’s when my first decision came through). I’m planning to apply for ILR on 1 August, using the priority service, hoping to receive a decision within a week.

I also have a trip to Europe planned for around 25 August, roughly 3 weeks after submitting my application.

A couple of questions:
• If I receive my ILR decision before travelling, is it safe to leave the UK even though my full 5-year stay completes during my travel?
• Is there anything I should be aware of with the new eVisa system when travelling after an ILR grant?

Thanks in advance for any guidance or experience you can share.

Yes, once the application has been approved you're free to travel. The time you've stayed in the UK is irrelevant.

You need a share code for travelling.

Also be aware that a priority service is not guaranteed. You might not have it available when applying or the application can still be delayed by UKVI.

The general advice is to avoid planning any travel when there is an impending immigration application.
