caught driving Uber

Post by rommy » Tue Jun 03, 2025 1:39 pm

Hello everyone,

One of our friend who is currently on work permit in UK got caught driving Uber last night.

He recently passed his driving license and has been driving Uber using some else Uber ID. Last night he was stopped by police. They gave him 6 points and immediately revoked his driving license.

What effect this will have on his future visa & ILR application?

Thanks

That must be declared under the driving/motoring offences within the forms to extend their visa, ILR, etc. A driving licence revocation means a serious offence.

Unsure how UKVI would see the breach on their immigration status - a work visa only allows to work for the visa sponsor. Plus working under another person's name is fraud (and illegal).

Getting a police report via PNC will be a good place to start. This should tell you possible criminal record held against your friend. The 6 points will likely go down as a licence offence. While the revocation is likely linked to Identify fraud, which is a much bigger issue. He will then need to declare these offences in all future visa applications with explanation. In which case it could become a breach of your visa conditions. A person, on a skilled work visa cannot work as a uber driver. Your friend will likely need a lawyer soon.
I am not a lawyer and do not claim to be one. All my comments here are based on my opinions, experience and interpretation of the appropriate UKVI guidance documents and immigration rules.

The 6 points information will need to be provided each time the visa is extended, but this is not the biggest problem. If he really used some other Uber ID, it could be considered fraud, which could create very serious problems even with the current visa.
