Dependent visa for spouse

hi Everyone..

Im currently working in UK on HSMP visa which will expire on June 14th 2009.(was valid for 2 yrs). I got married last year, my husband is also on HSMP. His visa is expiring on 20th July 2009. Difference of about 40 days.

Can i apply as his dependent, by applying for his visa extension first in june? (He was working on wp before, so want to be his dependent,as he has been in UK for a longer time,hence for PR )

then until which date will my visa valid for. June 2012? or july 2012?(3 years)

if its july 2012(As that of my husband's), then waht abt my stay here from june 14th to july 20th 2008? will that become illegal?

pls do let me know...im all confused now.....
