Extension under T1(G), when should I apply?

Post by sam_uk » Fri Jan 16, 2009 4:27 am

Hello everybody,

I tried to find the answer to my question in previous posts but could not find thats why I am posting my question here.

I am presetly in the UK under HSMP visa which was granted in December 2007 for two years and due to extension in December 2009 (under T1 general, I suppose).

Do I have to apply for extension with 75 points under T1 (G) criteria in December 2009 ? What will be the duration of the visa which I get on extension?

A friend of mine told me that HO issues extension visas for two years now and I have to apply in December 2010 for two years extension completing 75 points under T1 (G). Before that, I have to just extend the visa for one year without completing any points under any system?

I will really appreciate if somebody could reply these questions.

Best Regards,

Sam

I don't understand your question exactly, but my findings are:

1. You have to apply for extension 6 weeks before your visa expiry date.
2. You will be extended and given FLR for 3 years as you are on HSMP and you need to switch into Tier1 General which is initally granted for 3 years.

I came under HSMP for two years and was granted in Sep 07. I need to apply for my visa, hopefully in august 09. Hope it clarifies?

Hi Samuk/ jimmymcad

I would not wait until then (6 weeks time) for applying for my extension. If I were you, i would possibly do it say with 3-4 months time remaining. This is because, just in case if you application is rejected, you will not have enough time to re-apply...hence give yourself sufficient time to re-apply in case of rejection

Cheers

Hi Sam_UK,

If I have understood your query properly,

Yes, you will need 75 points for attributes, plus 10 points each for english language and maintenance (FUNDS) to be able get an extension under Tier-1 (General).

As you were granted HSMP for a period of 2 years, your HSMP extension(under T1G) will be for 3 years.
