Spouse visa extension - 14 months (and counting)

Post by derby_boy » Wed Aug 20, 2025 12:21 am

Hi all,

My father applied to extend my step mother's spouse visa (10 year route) last year.

It's now been 14 months and there is no update on the application.

It's very frustrating as they have put their travel plans on hold.

My father contacted our local MP too but we didn't get any further.

Can people share their experiences and guide if the process can be expedited please?

Thanks in advance!

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when you’ve already been waiting so long with no clear update. I had a similar experience a while back with a family member’s application, and it really felt like everything was just stuck in limbo.

Unfortunately, delays of over a year aren’t unheard of with spouse visa extensions, but 14 months is definitely outside the usual timescales. MPs can sometimes help, but often it takes specialist immigration support to get movement or at least get clearer answers from the Home Office.

Really hope your father and stepmother get some clarity soon – it’s not easy having travel and family plans on hold for so long.
