Naturalisation application 6 months plus - how long have you been waiting?

Post by cloud123 » Sun Aug 24, 2025 10:48 pm

Hi,

To all the people who have been waiting for more than 6 months, please tell us how long you have been waiting so you don't feel you are alone in this.

I have been waiting for nearly 10 months. I applied on 3/11/2024

Sometimes I feel very frustrated and I keep thinking, why me?

If you have been waiting for long please tell us.

We don't have a thread for wait times, but we do have one with advised actions to chase months-plus-waiting-for-citizenship-app ... 43483.html
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.

We have seen threads on these forums for people waiting for 14 months and 2 years. So six months is not really that long.
I am not a lawyer or immigration advisor. My statements/comments do not constitute legal advice. E&OE. Please do not PM me for advice.

I'm at nearly 10 months, 43 weeks. I definitely stressed daily up until the 6 month mark, and occasionally get annoyed still (hence peeking on the boards this AM!), but on the whole I forget about it most days. I do know why mine is delayed (or at least I suspect I do - good character requirements/past arrest), and i'll share more about that here and how I approached it for future reference once I have a decision either way. I do feel to some extent that I'd just like to go ahead and be refused if they're just dragging out a refusal. That's weird to say after so many years and so much money invested in this country, but I definitely feel beaten down by it all.

Having a past arrest doesn't necessarily mean that the naturalisation application will be refused. Some users here have reported being granted citizenship even after serving time in prison (unconfirmed testimonies though).

I suggest following the steps mentioned in the link above and request some feedback from the Home Office.

I know this is easier to say it than to put it into practice, but in the meantime I would stick to your approach of forgetting about this. As a settled person, you have pretty much the same rights as a British person.

Similar timelines I applied early December - frustrating.
My SAR is outstanding from May, have chased them up and they have apologised many times but have not received it yet.

My MP got involved in early Aug, the response was the same ol’ not automatic right + outstanding searches etc.

I had a company that I closed with my ex wife who was a brit national, we did get a bounce back loan, have a funny feeling it could be around this, or my pathetic financial situation following my divorce - family court battles aren’t cheap and racked up massive debts which I had to go down the DMP route, so all in all think it’s probably this they are investigating further, overall feel defeated.

Nothing I can do now except wait, I try to forget about it and get on with other things to distract myself, and expecting a refusal, good character is clear about debt issues.
