Name Change before applying for first passport

Post by Tomas31212 » Sun Aug 31, 2025 9:27 pm

Hello,

I wanted to ask about the name change procedure. I cannot change my name in my home country because the process is very complicated. However, I can obtain a letter from the consulate explaining this, so that it may be treated as an exception.

Would it be better to:
  • Apply for a deed poll and complete the name change after attending the ceremony, then send it along with the first passport application,
or
  • Receive the first passport in my original name, and then apply for a deed poll to change the name for the second passport?
Thank you in advance for your advice.

That depends on when you want to start using your new name. If you want to use it straight away, best to have the passport in your new name already.
