Naturalisation Application with a conviction

Post by Simz202025 » Tue Oct 07, 2025 12:16 pm

Hi all,

My brother unfortunately got a dui after he thought it was good to drive a short distance. It was really silly of him and rather an unfortunate situation.

He was given a 12 month Ban and was wondering if he would be able to apply after the Ban has been spent which will be next September. He has taken the drink drive course and taken extra rehabilitation precautions ie. attending alcohol awareness sessions.

Will his application be auto refused if he applies around October next year.

Many thanks

What is a dui? I would advise waiting a bit longer as drunk driving is a quite serious offence. Did he hurt anyone in the process?

Hi,

Apologies DUi is Driving under the influence. Fortunately he did not harm anyone and he was not involved in a collision. It more off he had reached he drove a shot distance and his speed drew attention and the police followed him and once he had pulled over where he normally parks he was questioned to which then he was breathelysed and failed.

It was a 19 month Ban which was then reduced to 12. He was just wondering can he apply early 2027 which will be roughly 4/5 months after it has been spent.

There isn't a minimum wait that works as a one size fits all. They will likely proceed on the balance of probabilities, so if your brother can wait a bit longer without reoffending (the first ban was 19 months, that's quite a long time) it will be more likely he is accepted.
