Apologies if this is not the appropriate platform / forum to post this on.
I am making this post - after carefully checking other forums on here, please.
So, if there is a more appropriate site / forum, please, let me know.
Please, I am looking to renounce my Nigerian citizenship.
I am a recently naturalised British citizen. I would like to renounce my Nigerian citizenship - for personal reasons.
From the research I have done (on YouTube, Google, via ChatGPT, from the Nigerian High Conmmission's website, etc), here is what I surmise:
1). The person will need to travel to Nigeria; to process their requests (https://www.nigeriahc.org.uk/consular/) On the other hand, a Google search states that I can mnake the application from the Nigerian High Commission in the UK. So, I am not entirely sure which is correct.
2). Formal Application: A typed letter requesting renunciation addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Interior.
3). Nigerian Passport: Your current Nigerian International Passport (first 5 pages/data page).
4). Birth Certificate: Your official Nigerian birth certificate.
5). Passport Photos: Recent passport-sized photographs.
6). Proof of New Citizenship: Evidence you will be granted or have been granted citizenship in another country (e.g., naturalization certificate, confirmation letter).
7). Sworn Affidavit: An affidavit of renunciation sworn at a High Court or Magistrate Court.
Can someone possibly help me confirm what the correct information is & how long it will take to successfully renounce the citizenship ?
Also, I intend to call the Nigerian High Commission - to get as much information from them. But, I am not sure how helpful they will be, please.
Thank you very much !!!!
