UK Standard Visitor visa – British spouse (non-resident) and short social visit

I am a Pakistani national. My husband is a British citizen (non-resident) and also holds Pakistani nationality. He lives and works in Pakistan, as do I. We were married in September 2025 in Pakistan, and I live with my husband and his parents in Pakistan. There are no current plans for either of us to relocate to the UK, and my husband will not be travelling with me.

I am planning a short visit to the UK in summer 2026 with my childhood friend. My friend is a British citizen, married, and resident in Pakistan. She is self-employed as a makeup artist, which allows her flexibility to travel during this period. This trip is a social and tourism visit, planned around our availability at the same time.

During the visit, we will be staying with my friend’s aunt in the UK, who has offered to host us at her home and cover accommodation and meals. The purpose of staying with extended family is simply to keep the visit cost-effective and time-limited.

I am employed as a Marketing Manager in Pakistan and will be travelling on approved leave, after which I am required to return to resume my role. My marital home, employment, and day-to-day life are all based in Pakistan.

Regarding finances, I intend to self-fund my trip. I will submit my own bank statements, showing regular income and personal savings of approximately £3,000, which I plan to use for personal expenses and sightseeing during the visit. My husband is not sponsoring or funding my travel.

My concern is whether having a British citizen spouse, despite him being non-resident and fully based in Pakistan, could negatively affect my application due to assumptions about weak ties.

Treat the application like every regular traveller whose spouse isn't British. Make sure that your application is full proof.

It could be a positive that you're travelling without him.

Do you have any travel experience?

Having £3K isn't much in my opinion. I'm assuming you'll spend £1k3 on tickets and maybe £500 on other things (just guessing, as I don't know). This is almost 2/3 of your savings, on a presumably 2 weeks holiday.

What's your monthly income in £?

Can you get your spouse to co-sponsor you? He would need proof of account, proof of wages and a letter of introduction to this effect.
This would help with the burden of proof as described above that you're not emptying your account to travel.
In actual fact when(if) visa is issued, he really doesn't need to pay towards your trip if he doesn't want to.

On finances, to clarify: my monthly salary is approximately £330–350, which is in line with local pay scales in Pakistan. Estimated return airfare is around £650, and I have personal savings of approximately £3,000, intended for a short visit. Accommodation and meals will be covered by my host.

Yes, I have travel experience. In recent times, 2 months ago I travelled to Turkey for a couple of days after my marriage.

Regarding my husband: he is a British citizen (non-resident) and also holds Pakistani nationality, resides in Pakistan, and earns his income through a company registered in the UAE. He does not operate a business in Pakistan; his work is location-independent and income is received from the UAE in his UAE bank account.

I would appreciate advice on:
• Whether including my husband as a co-sponsor would strengthen or weaken my application
• How best to present this arrangement
• What supporting documents would be appropriate (e.g. company registration, bank statements, letter of support)

This should not be an issue.

The strong ties to the home country needs to be established by you, in terms of your job, income, savings, assets (properties), family etc.

Treat this application as any other as advised. Just ensure that the money you have is in correspondence with the length of your stay. UKVI know that salaries are different in other countries.

That's not a bad idea. His bank statement, letter from him (stating how much he's willing to sponsor you with), data page of his UK passport, marriage certs, letter from your employer, 6 months statement of account and 6 months payslips.
