Naturalisation - Ceremony

Post by jayj » Sun Jan 18, 2009 5:06 pm

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for all the helpful posts , it has been rewarding so thanks to all that post your experience and advice.

I would like to find out :-

1. When you get the naturalisation certficate , there is a number you must call to arrange for the ceremony, how flexible are the dates? how often in the3 months you get the certificate does the ceremony commence? the reason I ask is that I'm wantingto go on holiday on March and I have to pickup the certificate tomorrow and need make bookings for holiday and wouldn't want to miss theceremony so planning ahead here :)

2. Once you attend the ceremony, how long after do you have to wait for the passport eg. I get the to go for the ceremony in Feb , once that is over what next? as I have the holiday in March....

If I've confused anyone of you , apologise...but your responses are welcome....

Thanks
J

Using your numbering :-
  1. I think you have misunderstood. The first time you will see your Certificate of Naturalisation is when you attend your Citizenship Ceremony. After you have received your "application successful" letter, having submitted the Naturalisation application, you will be given details about how to contact your local authority to arrange a time/date for your ceremony.
  2. How long for the passport? Are you thinking that the British passport happens automatically as part of the Naturalisation process? No it does not! All the Certificate of Naturalisation does is to confirm that you are British, but it is not compulsory for British Citizens to have a passport, and many don't.

If you want a British passport you will need to apply for one, and you can do that as soon as you have your Certificate of Naturalisation (the number of which needs to be entered on to the passport application form).

Go to a Post Office and pick up a passport application form.
Have you already received your "application successful" letter? If not, when did you apply for your Naturalisation?

As regards the application for a passport, the Passport Office does not seem busy at the moment but it might take 2 or 3 weeks for the passport to arrive. You will appreciate that you will need to attend an interview, as part of the procedure for getting a first Adult British passport.

Thanks John for clearing that, my solicitor says that my letter of invitation has arrived and that I needto pickthis up which Ishall do tomorrow.

1.How often do they have the ceremonies?

2. I guess once I recieve the certificate , it's up to me when I apply for a passport based on what you mentioned which suits me fine as I will apply for it aftermy holiday hoping that I can go for ceremony before my holiday

Thanks

How often do they have the ceremonies?
That varies very considerably. For example here in Birmingham, the largest local authority not just in the UK but indeed in Europe, they have ceremonies on two days per month, and at least two separate ceremonies on each of those days.

But in rural areas they might have just one ceremony every 6 to 8 weeks.

Obviously I am not asking you to post your full address, but in which local authority area do you live?

You seem to have missed :-
We hold regular citizenship ceremonies in Lambeth Town Hall
As kawasaki1 suggests, give them a ring! If they have already been notified about you by Liverpool you might be able to arrange your ceremony.
