Documents check list for Naturalisation Application

Post by IceCreamSandwich1 » Sat Jul 18, 2026 1:31 pm

Hello there, I'm applying for BC by the way of naturalisation,
After spending some months on research I've made my own check-list for documents needed for the online for.
1. Current Passport
1.1 Current national ID card
1.2 Any other type of photo ID
1.3 BRP or share code to prove immigration status
2. Residency supporting documents
3. Two Referees
4. English language test certificate
5. Life in the UK certificate

I have some issues providing some of those documents,
I've lost my physical BRP and don't have pictures of it left, but I I have id number written down and have access to share codes to prove lawful residence.

My current national passport has expired more than 6 years ago and I haven't traveled outside UK for the last 7 years.
As such I'm not sure how I can prove my residence for qualifying period.
I've read on-line that following document's can be used to prove my residency:
Council tax bills, tenancy agreements, utility bills, payslips, P60s, employment/school letters covering last 5 years.
But since I haven't traveled outside the UK for qualifying period, do I need to provide any evidence at all?

Also from what I read manager from work does qualify as a professional, is that correct?

Thank you in advance for your responses!

Your passport can't be current if it has expired.

You must provide other evidence of residence, eg P60s or an employer letter with dates of your employment(s) over the last 5 years. Bank statements or bills (except council tax bills) are not accepted.
Did you tell the authorities you lost your BRP? do you have a letter that proves you were given ILR? Do you have any other valid ID documents? Could you get a passport from your country of origin?

I've called the UKVI and they told me not to worry about it and that it was replaced by e-visa and I should use share-code to prove my immigration status.

No, I haven't received any letters only the one that said that I was invited to the UKVI interview for the BRP it self.

Not really, but I was told by UKVI that e-visa should be enough in most cases.

It would take too long, and turns out I have a picture of BRP I've read on this forum that picture would be enough for the online application, is it true?

I have tenancy agreements and letters from NHS covering 5 years period, would the suffice as evidence of residency?

If you are employed, why not just requesting a letter form your employer? Tenancy agreements are not accepted.

You will need a form of valid ID when you attend your biometrics appointment. A picture of a lost BRP won't be enough for that.

Then would share-code/e-visa suffice?
I've been getting by with e-visa so far, including on English language and Life in the UK tests, I've called Immigration Advice Services and they told me that tenancy agreements would do just fine, I've changed a few jobs during the qualifying period and could not get p60s on all 5 years, so I decided to supplement them with NHS letters and tenancy agreements which I was told would be fine, and you're telling me it's not, so now I'm quite confused.

Are you sure about that?
Thanks for your reply

Yes, I am sure. UKVI advisors on the phone are not case workers and it does happen that they give incorrect advice. Also immigration services is different to citizenship, citizenship is not an immigration application and not the same thing as proving your right to work/rent. The guidance clearly states what evidence is acceptable and what isn't for a citizenship application and tenancy agreements are not acceptable.
If you have payslips for each month you can submit those, but you can also just send an email to your previous employers and get letters from them. It isn't that onerous.
Also as I said earlier a share code won't prove your identity, so you need a passport or other photo ID for your biometric appointment.

I have PAYE Income Tax history from HMRC, I've read it would be as good as p60s for citizenship application, is it true?

No it wouldn't be accepted unfortunately. You must refer to the guidance, rather than to advice you found online.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... accessible
Residence Requirements
Absences
You should supply the following documents to show you have been mainly in the UK
during the 5 years (or, if married to or in civil partnership to a British citizen, 3 years)
before making your application:
• Your passports
• If you are unable to provide your passport, explain why and supply letters from
employers (including start and finish dates), payslips, P60s, educational
establishments or other government departments indicating your presence in the
United Kingdom during the relevant period

Examples of documents that can be used to show you have been in the UK for the
required time period, can be found here.
So tenancy agreements, bills, bank statements, are not accepted. You can supply the P60s you have as well as payslips if they cover the 5 year period. Or just ask your employers for letters that confir your employment.

This is the section it is referring to:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... #page%3D16
Absences
You must check the available evidence to see whether an applicant meets the
residence requirements.

The following can be used as evidence of residence:
• passports or travel documents which have been stamped to show arrival in the
UK and entry and departure from other countries: these should be checked
against the list of absences that applicants are asked to provide on the
application form
• Home Office records
• if the applicant does not have passports to cover the qualifying period, other
evidence such as employers’ letters or tax and National Insurance letters:
o in such cases you should assess whether there is sufficient evidence to
show that that applicant has been resident in the UK during the qualifying
period, giving them the benefit of any doubt where claimed absences are
within the limits we would normally allow and there are no grounds to doubt
the accuracy of the claim
You must not normally accept doctors' letters on their own as proof of residence.
However, if nothing else is available and the doctors can confirm that they have seen
the applicant on a regular basis during the period concerned these may be accepted.

If there are gaps in a person’s evidence of residence and it is clear from the
information available that they could not have travelled, you must accept this.
Examples of this might include a refugee who has no means of travel or where
immigration records confirm continuous residence.
As you have been employed, your primary evidence should come from P60s/payslips/letters from employers. You can add letters from the NHS but as explained above in the official guidance these are not normally accepted.
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.
