layover in a Schengen country?

Post by bunny80 » Tue Jan 27, 2009 11:22 am

if a US citizen has to fly back home from Romania and makes a stop in a Schengen country just because there is no direct flight to the US( for ex. Bucharest-Frankfurt, Frankfurt - New York), is that day taken out their 90 days visitor's visa ?

cheers!

I dont think anyday or stamping will be on his/she's passport cus its just a transit and not coming out of the airport.

His passport will be stamped in the last Schengen country he is in. If he hoes from Romania to Germany, it will be stamped in Germany. Flights from Romania to Germany are domestic flights, while the ones from Germany to the US are international flights.

The answer is, if the US citizen flies from Romania to Germany on the 22 and flies from Germany to the US on the 23, yes, one day has been "burnt".
Aiming at travelling to the UK with my wife and not with an EEA FP!

But he wont cross the border, meaning he wont go out of the airport...just for him to say on transit and wait for his next plane so how and where will he be stamped ?

All airports have transit areas were you can pass through to board the flight (except Singapore) without reaching the immigration control so were does the stamping come in here ?

Or are local flights different from international ?
