Hi,
my fiance and I plan on getting married in London in March/April 2009.
we are in the process of applying for his Fiance Visa, which legally allows him to marry here in the UK, however, our plan is to settle here once married, and my questions is, what do we do once married so that he can be granted 'Leave To Remain' ?? and roughly how long does it take to process so that he can legally work in the UK??
Thanks
Jennifer.

Based on my experience 5 years ago, you have to get married here in UK first then he has to go back from where he's currently residing and apply for Dependant Visa from there. Once he gets the Dependant Visa, then he can immediately come back here and work.

1. what is your nationality
2. if you are british citizen he would need to apply for a spouse visa after marriage valid for 27 months
3. if you hold ilr it is the same process as no 2.
4. if u are on visas like hsmp, student, e.t.c............ then he will need to apply for a dependant visa on the basis of your leave to remain.
hope it helps

Incorrect advice! (both now and 5 years ago) ... if someone enters on a fiance visa that person may switch status to spouse "in-country".
Did you enter the U.K. on fiance or visitor status?

I have a question - i am in this country for last 4.5 years now and my current contract ends March end. I am not sure if the contract will get extended or not. I will becomne elligible for ILR in Aug 09. Looking at the market conditions, io am not sure if i will be having a job after march or not. If i dont have a job after March, can i still apply for ILR?
Please suggest.
