This article in today's Independent suggests that some in Government are actively turning their attention to the Tier 1 migrant numbers, in this case in relation to employment competition with new graduates.

This is another example of the insecurity and protectionism-oriented nature of the economy here. It is a fact that highly skilled professionals contribute greatly to the British economy through taxes and National Insurance contributions, without making use of any benefits.

I hope they do not take some action retrospectively against existing Tier 1 holders, in which case it will be a surefire cause of legal action. On the whole a very retrograde step.
