I have just looked at the agenda for the House of Commons today. There is no indication of a written statement on this matter, so it could well be the case that there will be an oral statement from the Home Secretary ... at 12.30.pm. I shall watch the BBC Parliament channel to see.

Also on the agenda a formal first reading for a Bill :-
Preliminary Business
Notices of Presentation of Bills

IMMIGRATION, ASYLUM AND NATIONALITY

[No debate]

Mr Secretary Clarke

Bill to make provision about immigration, asylum and nationality; and for connected purposes.
-: so when that Bill is published in a few days we shall be able to see the detail.

I was wrong .... no oral Ministerial Statement on this today. But the Bill I mentioned was formally presented.

The reason why no statement today became obvious. Mr Speaker asked "Second reading what day?" to which the answer was "tomorrow".

So looks like we shall find out a lot more about the detailed plans tomorrow during the Second Reading debate.

As per BBC the new scheme will not be included in the bill. Instead they will simply amend the Immigration Rules this is much simple and quick - no voting at parliament.

So it will not be long until ILR rules are changed.

Hi guys,

In the interest of not raising to many alarm bells, I have a very quick look at the pdf and can't find anything to get too excited about in there! Theres no reference to making ILR 5yrs from 4 at least! Also it seems to make quite a few amendments to the current bill, but is not actually a new bill (I think!) This document seems to cover:

Appeals
Employment (and fines or for employees who hire people who are not allowed to work)
Information (i.e information the immigration officers are allowed to request etc)
Claimants and applicants (to do mostly with asylum seekers)
and some general stuff

Interesting stuff though, need to look at it in more detail!

I agree infoatltd, they will probably sneak the change from 4 to 5 years in without many noticing!

As mentioned earlier the points system will be published shortly. They are not part of the bill because the government intends to sneak them in by simply changing the Immigration rules. This is much easier and quicker for the government as neither debate nor voting in parliament is needed.

Hi Guys,
I read news about not including new point system as part of bill. Can anybody naildown how new point system will differ with existing HSMP?
Also it would be nice if someone can address these points

1) No. of point to qualify, I mean threashold
2) assessment domains/areas, and how they will be awarded e.g. education, experience, age,if any points for sponsorship(in case one has got some family there).
3) process time, presuming not worsen as HSMP.

TIA,
ZIA

UK new point system for skilled immigration?????

Post by zhassan » Tue Jul 05, 2005 9:36 am

Hi Moderators,

Why this forum is quiet on this topic? My expectation is that someone must have got some idea about the details of this new points system yet to be revealed by Home office.
Like I heared that threshold is 43 points but could not know further details
