UK National working in Spain

Post by nithysh » Mon Feb 16, 2009 9:19 am

I am not too sure who the right people are to contact regarding my query and would really appreciate any help that you can offer.
I am a British national working for an indian IT Services company in Bangalore India, i will have to travel to Barcelona Spain to work on a project at our client office for a minimum period of eight months that could get extended by another six months.
Do i need to apply for a spanish work permit before i travel? i did come across some information online which says no Visa/Permits required for EU nationals travelling to Spain is this true

EU nationals can work anywhere in the EU without a visa.....hence the EU??

You may be required to register after 3 months! But you do not have to apply for any visa!

British Citizen... If i do not need a Work permit or a visa would i need any other form of documentation like a letter from the company in Spain or my employer in order to prove that i am employed. I did face a lot of problems with the documentation while applying for my indian work permit so i really dont want to mess this up in anyway.

Thanks in Advance!

No you do not need any documents (work related) to work in Spain if you are a British citizen.....you may have to apply for residence after the 3 months, but you would be considered the same as any Spainish person working there!

India would have been very different.......as it is not within the EU, and more than likely you would have needed a visa to work!!! Two completely different places....in terms of visa's!!

Good luck

What is the difference and how does it affect the OP's current situation?

I was thinking of British nationals (overseas) who are not considered as United Kingdom nationals for Community purposes.

If you are a British citizen, you can simply fly to Spain and start working. You do not need a work permit. You only need your passport to prove you are British. If you want to stay for more than 3months, you will need to do a simple application in Spain within the first 3 months.

Do you have a family who will be coming with you? If so, the same or similar rules apply to them.
