Entering Dublin

Post by Leigh1972 » Sun Feb 18, 2007 11:51 pm

Hi
This is my 1st post on this board and I hope someone can help.
My husband has been issued a Residence Document as a spouse of EEA family national. The question I have is that we live in the North of Ireland and his RD was issued through the Home Office in Croydon and when we have gone on holiday it has always been from a Uk airport.
I need to know can he leave and return from Dublin airport on his RD?
Thanks in advance
Leigh

It's "Northern Ireland" rather than "North of Ireland".

What is your husband's nationality? Depending on that, he may need a visa to enter the Republic of Ireland. And which EEA state are you from?

Hi
I am from Northern Ireland, I was born in Belfast and my husband is turkish. He has been issued with a EEA Residence Document to remain here. We just want to go on holiday and the flights are from Dublin and return to Dublin, and I wanted to be sure he can go and return from there before we book them.
Thanks

He needs to obtain a visa to enter the republic of Ireland. However, he will be able to leave because there are no real border checks (random checks are occasionally carried out on trains and buses) and no exit controls, but he will not be able to return to Dublin without having the necesarry visa.

Did you apply for the EEA residence card on the basis of your Republic of Ireland citizenship?

Note that he can apply for an Irish visitors visa (at no cost and to be issued on the basis of an accelerated process), since he is married to EU citizen.

Are there immigration exit controls when flying out of Dublin Airport or is your passport only examined by airline staff & security?

No immigration control on exit, yes airline desk staff can check your travel documents but if you fly with airlines that have online check in and you only have hand luggage you dont see nobody.

No visa required on entering Dublin, in accordance with Article 5(2) of Directive 2004/38/EC:
2. Family members who are not nationals of a Member State shall only be required to have an
entry visa in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 539/2001 or, where appropriate, with national
law. For the purposes of this Directive, possession of the valid residence card referred to in
Article 10 shall exempt such family members from the visa requirement.

Might have been better to just have let that one lie, JAJ ;)
