Spainish Immigration Query

Post by SDB » Sat Feb 21, 2009 6:03 pm

I am hoping somebody has some advice for me.

I am a South African passport holder who would like to move to Spain with my British fiancée. We currently live and work in Dublin.

We would like to move before we are married but i am fast realising that it not going to work.

How long will it take to get a spouse visa from the Spanish Embassy? Would that allow me to live with him in Spain?

Thanks
SDB

Do you live with your fiancee? How long have you been together in a "substantial" relationship?

HI,

Yes we have lived and been together for 3 years now, well 3 in September this year.

We have lived in Gibraltar, Isle Of Man, and for the last year Dublin. Our jobs have moved us around now and finally want to settle in Spain.

Thanks

I just want to double check something.

My fiancee is who is British is self employed, so when he works in Spain he will not be working for a Spanish company. Will that make a difference?

Thanks
Serah

Self employed is fine. You may have to provide a little extra documentation to prove you are actually self employed, but work is work is work.

Hi - just a quick question.

Is it not easier just to wait and apply when we are married?

Is the process easier then?

Thanks
Serah

You said "We would like to move before we are married"

As a south african, you are generally required to have a visa, whether you are married or not. So you will have to apply for the visa in either case.

Should not particularly matter whether you are married or not. The process should be (hopefully) identical.

We though if the process was easier we would just wait. Since is sounds the same we have gone ahead and contacted the EU’s free Citizen Signpost service for their opinion. Once we have something back from them we will contact the Spanish Embassy in Dublin.

I will keep the forum posted on what happens incase others are in a similar situation.

Thanks
SDB
