do i need to get a letyter from my employer when applying for british citizenship?

No, not at all. Take a look at the form AN(NEW). It gives full details of the documentation that you need to supply.You certainly need to enter things like your tax reference on the form, which gives IND the ability to check upon your tax history on the Revenue's computer system, but no letter needed from your employer.

IND looking at the Revenue's computer system? Well yes, and on signing the form you authorise them to do so.
