US & UK Citizens would like to marry in Ireland- Advice?

Post by Samperry » Thu Feb 26, 2009 5:04 pm

Hello, I am a female US Citizen and my boyfriend is Scottish. I have lived inthe UK for 11 years, but am only currently on a time limited work visa (expiring in Aug., despite being a home owner, and being on a permaned contract, etc.). I would like to marry my long-term cohabiting boyfriend of 4 years sometime in June or July, however, it seems a very expensive, drawn out and complicated process in the UK- which tends to take the romance out of things! My father owns a cottage in the south of Ireland, and we are thinking of getting married there. Can someone please tell me the steps/ costs involved, and whether the marriage will be recognised in the UK as a basis for a dual-citizenship application after Aug.?
Thank you for any help you can offer.
