I am not an expert on this but I think there is no such thing as long-term schengen visa. The maximum they can give you is only 6 months.

It is possible to get a longer visa validity. However, sometimes with first time applicants (esp. those applying from outside the EU) they would give you a visa with a shorter validity.

I don't know about 3-5 years, though...someone else can clarify.

I think the Schengen rules allow up to five years. How to get one? I do not know.

The (national) D visa are usually called long-term visa.

C type visa only allow 3 months per half year but can be valid for up to five years.

Normally the first schengen visa is a short term single entry till they 'trust' you. Not always tho - as usually depends on the mood of the person processing the visa...

You should have really used the visa that was issued....it looks suspicious....why apply for a visa get it granted then not use it???

They may think you are just trying to use there visa to get to Europe?? I mean for example the first visa 15 days the third visa 6 months then a year that way you will never have to apply for residence but will be able to stay in the EU.....any way the longest you can stay is 6 months out of any 1 year period right???

Why did you apply for the visa if you did not want to use it?? Just curious because I know of a lot of people who try to get a visa and are refused!! You got it and didn't use it!!
