You need to apply for a job. Once you will get any job letter then you can apply for National Insurance Number. I think you can get all this information online as well. Just type in google how to get national insurance number in UK.
Bank accounts can only be open if you have any prove of address such as any telephone bill or any other bill which has your name and address on it.
Ask me if you have any further questions.

I agree. They should hopefully be clearing all January applications within the next couple of weeks, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

One more quick question, Is it mandatory to have a job to get the NI number? Or even a Bank account?

You do not need to pay a single penny to open a bank account. Also, there is no charge for national insurance number. You do not need to worrie abut these things. Just apply for jobs and after that you can apply for national insurance number and bank account.
Companies knows that you are new in UK therefore they will give you enough time to get these things but as I said you should not worrie about these things at the moment.

It doesn't cost anything to get either a NI number or to open a bank account. There are a few accounts with certain banks, that do require a minimum deposit, but equally, there are those that don't matter.

You should do. My employer was not contacted during their consideration stage and so the actual consideration procedure was quite quick. Hopefully, you'll be in a similar situation.

That sounds about right. I think it took 43 days from the time my application reached the home-office to the time I received my documents back.

It seems like HO's cut-off date moves 5 days forward every week.
The week before was 19th Jan.
Last week was 17th Feb (But I think it should be 24th Jan).
This week is 29th Jan.
If it is like that, people will be waiting for even longer time. This is because people can send application from Monday-Saturday (6 days) but the cut-off date only processes 5 days every week.

No, they do not give the Status before 6weeks.. that first question they ask is when did you apply and once you tell a date they will ask ur Ref No and they can check the time and will refuse to give you the status.. But YES for cases with UT??

Hi,
Applied On: Feb 19th
Fees deducted on:Feb 21st
Acknowledgement received on: Feb 25th...
I think for applications outside the country is processed quicker....the timeline for process applications is less than 15 days... :o but inside the country applications are processed in more than 50 days....
Hopefully I should be receiving it by mid of April.... :D
Cheers,
Kiru4u

Average Application In-Country (UK) receive results in 6-8weeks time but in some cases they are quite quicker 4weeks.. but as somebody put it average is around 50days from the date of application received at HO to the date you receiive your PP n docs back..

The processing time has been roughly 6 weeks, at least for straightforward applications and for those who have not requested urgent treatment.
