Processing times for spousal sponsorship living in Canada

I am a canadian married my wife who was on a visitor visa. I applied for permanent residency for her through sponsorhip and used a lawyer for that. It is 5 months CIC received our application. How long it takes to get approved. We are interested in the letter of approval. Also are there 2 stages of approval? if so how long it takes for each stage. I believe we are in the first satge. Your serious answers are appreciated. Thanks
