UK immigration Lawyer recommendation please

Post by englishman » Thu May 19, 2005 9:46 pm

Hi

I got married to a US citizen and we are currently living in the UK but wanting to apply for a spousal visa so that we can get to the US as soon as possible, since my wife really hates it here.

Can anyone please recommend a good UK immigration lawyer for us ? I have had one quote of £5000 and one for £1250 both excluding goverment fee's and was wondering if these are relatively average ?

Money is tight for us both so that is another factor.

Many thanks.

Also, is it advised to pay out for a lawyer or is it possible to fill out the required paperwork ourselves and not experience a delay ??

Many thanks.

Sorry, if the two of you are currently in the UK, but plan to move to the US as soon as possible, why do you need a "good UK immigration lawyer"?

What exactly are you wanting that "good UK immigration lawyer" to do for you and your wife?

In addition to John's query:

1. What is your status in the UK?

2. What is your wife's status in the UK?

3. Has your spouse filed US taxes for the last 3 years?

4. How long have you been married?

Hi

We were looking for a lawyer in the UK to submit our spousal visa for me to go to the US. We thought getting a UK lawyer would be best.

I am a UK citizen, live and work here, was born here etc. I'm English. My wife is here on a tourist visa. She is a US citizen.

She hasn't had to file taxes previously because she hasn't earned enough each year but she has had to file taxes this year.

We have been married for 2.5 weeks.

Thankyou

Hi,
U may want to get hold of an U.S immigration attorney as both the I 130 and the I 129 K has to be filed at the centre that has jurisdiction over ur place of residence. The fee too may be much lesser in $ than british pounds.
Immigration law is mystery and a mastery in obfuscation, and the lawyers who can figure that out are worth their weight in gold.
