US DV Lottery Greencard Question

I have been successful in the US DV Lottery (greencard) for the next programme running from October 2005 through to September 2006.

Based on my successful application number and the current year issuance of visas, it would appear that a visa will not be available until probably around July 2006.

If I submit and return my completed application now does the US embassy only call you in once visas numbers are available for your application number, or are you required to attend an interview earlier ?

Also does anyone know how long they hold your passport for and whether they need it to issue a visa or something, ie I am a bit unclear of the administrative process ?

How long do you have to enter the US assuming the processing is successful ?

Finally if I don't return my completed application until say March 2006 will this jeopardise my chances of successful getting the green card ?

Any advice on the DV lottery process post being drawn out would be appreciated
