EUFAM 4 stamp and visiting Spain on holidays

I live in ireland a non EU married to EU. Me and my wife wants to go to Majorca on holiday together and we live in ireland. I have a valid EU fam card issued by GNIB ireland.

The Spanish Embassy says i need a visa to go to Spain (Schengen Visa) otherwise i can't go with my wife. The Embassy is in a different city and i am in a different.

Is it not that all non Eu spouse under Eu directive should be free from visa embargo.
please help.

Directive 2004/38/EC says you can. But, it may not be plain sailing..

If you check-in to your flight online, you may eliminate any hassle when departing from the Irish airport.

Upon arrival in Mallorca, however, you may be in for an argument or two. Take a copy of Directive 2004/38/EC in English and in Spanish. Article 5(2) is most relevant. Take also your marriage cert and, of course, your passports (/National ID card, in case your EU spouse has one).

i have sent emails to the embassy but they are not responding and the phone number they have posted on the website never works....this is ridiculous to be honest!! dont know where to complain.any help
