British Passport

Post by jayj » Thu Apr 02, 2009 9:41 pm

Hi there,

I'm aboutto fill the form for obtaining my first british passport and there is a requirement to fill in parentsdetails and date of marriage which I can provide BUT also they need grandparents detail too eg. date of birth and date of marriage etc for grandparents. This information is hard to find as my grandparents are deceased a long time ago.

Will theapplication for passport be a problem if I cannot provide my grandparents details???

Please let me know if anyone has been through this or any advice.

Thanks everso much

I just called them (0300 222 0000). First they said, if you are born in 1970's, there is no real need of grand parents details but if U want, just add a sheet, saying whatever details of your grand parents you know and explain the reasons for not having other information. I was told even if U didn't have full information abt grandparents, it shouldn't affect your application.

Here is their official email reply:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your enquiry

Maternal and paternal grandparents details are required. It will be sufficient to record known information with an explanatory note advising that no further information is available as your grandparents are deceased. this will not adversely affect your application.

Thank you.

I think it depends on what basis you are getting a passport. For naturalisation, I didn't put any details regarding grandparents
