Hello. I am currently studying in the UK on a one year Masters programme but just recently got accepted (with partial funding) to a 3 yr PhD programme at the same uni which will begin Oct 09. My partner moved to the UK with me (from Canada) and he has ILR status because his mother is British. We are planning to get married sometime over the next year. My current student visa expires 1 Jan 2010 and I will need to extend it. Given the new regulations for student visas, i am wondering if it would be better to get married sooner rather than later and apply to stay under a marriage visa. I also have a daughter from a previous relationship, and I'm wondering how she factors into it.
I know we need to prove we can support ourselves without recourse to public funds - if he is working (which he is now) and I can show I have funding for school, including a maintenance stipend and teaching work, do we also need to have a certain bank balance?
Thanks in advance for any help.
