English requirement for HSMP

Post by inzar » Thu Apr 23, 2009 11:23 am

Hi All,

I am applying for tier 1 hsmp visa from Ireland and have been living and working here for 5 years for multinational companies and banks.

Do I still need to clear and English competency test like TOEFL or Ilets , doesn't sound reasonable to me.

Any insights or ideas ? would be much appreciated.

Best Regards

English language requirement is for everybody. You are living and working in Ireland. Did you earned your degree in Ireland. Degree from few countries are exempted from this requirement as mentioned on Page 33 of the guidance notes. Other than that, everybody have to provide English language proof for the application. If you can see your University in the PBS calculator, you do not need to provide additional evidence or sit of TOEFL/IELTS etc.

Thanks folks for you help, I have not done my degree from Ireland and if I would have it is accepted in the calculator.

I think they should provide a provision. I will see what is in the guidance notes otherwise I have to waste my time and effort to do the test :(

Hi

If your degree is listed in points calculator and award you points for english language then you don't need to take IELTS.

Otherwise you must take IELTS and it's not dificult since you have lived in english speaking country.
