help please.for ILR

HI
I am new to this forum.I am in a dilemma.I came to this country in 2002.Then I had permit free visa until 2004 august.I got work permit after that.But approved letter came in december 2004.So my visa was extended for 2yrs until 2006 dec.Further extension to work permit(done by the employer) extended permit for 60 months.(i dont know why?)visa is stamped from july 2006.I was planning to apply for ILR in august this year.(as permit free 21/2 yrs is not counted)But I am not sure if I could because of gaps in dates.could someone advise me please.

From my understanding as per current immigration rule you will be eligible to apply ILR after 5 years from date of work permit visa.
