Cover letter help

Hi,

I was looking out for a post that mentions what would be ideal contents for a cover letter.

Is it a short 1 page document or
You just go on writing (2 - 3 pages) about yourself stating what have you done, how well you can adjust youself in UK, How confident you are to find a job for yourself etc.

or , you can write a brief writup about yourself and then explain in detail what proofs you are sending for each requirements for which you are claiming points. Arrange your proofs in different sections and explain each section. Its almost like writing a guide map for your case worker through your case file.
