mother in law visa extension

Post by aikmonaikmon » Wed May 06, 2009 9:32 am

Hi there,
My mother-in-law is now in the UK with us and she has 6 months visit visa. Now she would like to stay a little longer than 6 months.

She visited the UK before, back in 2001, and stayed for 6 months.

I hold ILR, my wife is my dependent and we have 10 months old son.

Please can anyone advise me if she can extend her visa? If not, is there any possible visa categories she should consider switch her visa to?

Much appreciated
Sai

No and no.

She could only extend in the most extreme compassionate circumstances, ie civil war at home, terminal illness etc...

Also u cannot switch from visitor visa in-country.

Only option is another visit visa - remember the IO's will view anymore than six months out of twelve as effectively settlement and deny entry so no hopping home and hopping back immediately...

Another option is dependent visa but she'd need to be totally dependent on u, be over 65 with no siblings locally, very hard to get.
