EEA2 App.:Will HO accept Dutch Private Medical Insurance

Post by ribena » Sat May 16, 2009 12:16 pm

Hi all,

Received a letter from HO requesting for my husband (EEA Citizen) proof of private medical insurance. All he has with him is a private medical insurance card from Holland.

As we all know that we can't get much info from the UKBA or get thru the phone with them to verify things, we would like to know if it is sufficient enough to send his Holland medical card or he need to get another medical insurance in UK.

If we need to get a UK insurance, will it be suspicious for the caseworker that the start of the UK medical insurance is very recent?

Thanks

p/s: we just found out abt european health insurance card that my husband can apply for one from Holland. is it sufficient for HO?

I think it should, as long as it provides full cover, and not just emergency treatment, for example (which is free in the UK anyway).

You should ask for a letter stating the insurance details - the card alone is probably not what the UKBA wants.

That depends on your application. For EEA2 it is not an issue, for EEA4 cover is expected for the past 5 years.

Funny enough I think that yes, that may work. The European health insurance card works is handled as a private insurance, as far as I know.

Thanks thsths.

We will be calling my husband insurance company on Monday hopefully they can help to write to a letter in English confirming that he is covered by the medical insurance here (non -emergency) and also apply for the European Health Insurance (which should takes 4 working days).

Think we will wait till for the letter and European Health Insurance. bah!!
and meanwhile looking around for UK Insurance for the just-in-case.
