What are some reasons that a visa for the UK may be refused?

I mean like visit visas, fiance visas and spouse visa.

I currently have a boyfriend in the UK and I was once denied entry to the UK when trying to visit him. I wish i had read some of these forums before then as it might not of happened if i had. I had a return ticket, enough funds etc, but they still found a reason to deny me.

Anyhow in the near future i will be applying for a visit visa. If we decide to get married, i will then be applying for either a fiance visa or a spouse visa. If we get married in the US (which we probably will), then a spouse visa. If get married in the UK, then a fiance visa etc.

I guess i am just looking for stories and or experiences from others who have went though this to prepare myself and hopefully not make any mistakes. So i am open to any advice or anything you might want to share starting with the visitor visa.

If you don't meet the requirements you will be refused. Its as simple as that. People get refused for various reasons

Why do you want to know about visitor visa, if you are thinking of eventually settling in the UK.?. This wouldn't apply to you unless you are thinking of cheating the system, by coming here on a visit, getting married and then applying for permanant stay from here. This is risky and I wouldn't advise you to do it.

Your best bet would be the fiance/spouse. I don't think you should have any problem getting it as you from the US and not a third world country, providing of course you meet the rules.

Wow what a way to throw accusations at somebody. So a visitors visa wouldn't apply to unless i want to cheat the system? Are you sure about that? Well obviously you didn't read my post because i clearly stated that i have been DENIED entry. After you have been DENIED ENTRY they say you need to apply for entry clearance. I am not yet engaged to my boyfriend, and like i said in my post, we would like to do a long visit before we make that decision which is why i would need the visit visa. Why would i apply for a fiance visa if i am not engaged? And from what i read, you have to apply for all visas from your home country, so why would i go there as a tourist and try to apply? Please read more carefully before you make such comments.

I think what my erstwhile colleague is telling you is that if u arrive here with a valid visit visa the IO is still within his rights to deny you entry if he suspects you are not a genuine visitor, so you need to be very very careful what u say to him if questioned and very careful what you pack in your bag. Even having a CV in there has got others bounced.

Remember a visit visa is for visiting/tourism, it's not a trial relationship visa.

Having a previous denial will me you are under greater scrutiny, so you need to play this very carefully.
