If you don't meet the requirements you will be refused. Its as simple as that. People get refused for various reasons
Why do you want to know about visitor visa, if you are thinking of eventually settling in the UK.?. This wouldn't apply to you unless you are thinking of cheating the system, by coming here on a visit, getting married and then applying for permanant stay from here. This is risky and I wouldn't advise you to do it.
Your best bet would be the fiance/spouse. I don't think you should have any problem getting it as you from the US and not a third world country, providing of course you meet the rules.
