Help - Is it worth marrying my girl friend earlier for ILR?

Post by sam_edinburgh » Sun Jun 07, 2009 6:15 pm

Hi guys, I am eligible for ILR in Sep 09 under the HSMP JR and my girlfriend who is currently on work permit won't be eligible until Sep 2010. We have been living together for more than 2 yrs and both of us are more than 21 yrs of age.

We have been planning to get married next year, but I am now wondering if we get married before I apply for ILR later this year, can she apply for ILR as my dependent or are there any technical problems that might prevent us from doing so. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Sam.

To be eligible for ILR with you after marriage, she probably will also need an entry clearance as your dependant (196E).

Thanks for the reply. Does that mean she has to go back to India and apply for an entry clearance or is it possible to get this in the UK.
