British citizenship for EU citizen's baby

Post by Inna83 » Mon Jun 01, 2009 12:05 pm

Hi!
Could you tell me am I entitled to apply for British passport for my baby who will be born in two month time? I and my husband are Latvian citizens. My husband lives permanently in England from February 2004 and I live in England from July 2004. We both have residence permits from March 2006. But have been working in England continuously from 2004. If my baby is entitled for British citizenship, what is applying procedure?
Thank you!

It appears your husband became a Permanent Resident in May 2009, and hence your child will be a British citizen by birth.

Apply to the Home Office on form NS for confirmation that the child is British, then apply for the child to have a British passport.

Will Latvia issue a Latvian passport to a child who is also a British citizen?

Thank you for your reply. No, Latvia doesn't accept two citizenships. I will be happy if my child will have British one only. Do you know how much does it cost to apply for British passport for child?

Hi! I’m very confused now. Could you tell me the difference between forms NS and NM1? Which is the best to apply in my case? And what documents will I need to proof that me and my husband have settled status in UK?

NS : Proof that someone is already a British citizen.

MN1 : Application for a child to become a British citizen.

Proof : Certified copies of your passport details and evidence you have been working in Britain for at least 5 years before child was born.

What does count as evidence that we have been working in England for 5 years? Does it have to be permanent residence (we didn't apply for it) or is it enough to send work permits and P60 or payslips?
