Naturalization for Dependant

Post by capricornianz » Sat Jun 13, 2009 7:00 pm

Hi,
I have been granted ILR on the basis of HSMP and so has been my wife as a dependant. According to the letter given to us by Home Office, we both have qualified for ILR about 12 months ago, hence completing the time required to apply for naturalization.

However my wife has been in this country only for a total of 2.5 yrs. Will she have to wait another 6 months before applying for British Citizenship?

or is the letter from Home Office stating the ILR date (about 12 months ago) sufficient enough to apply for citizenship?

You wife cannot apply for naturalisation until she has 5 years residence, including at least 12 months with ILR.

If you become a British citizen, she can subsequently apply under the 3 year residence rule, if she wishes.
