Studying in Canada

Post by Obie » Fri Jul 03, 2009 10:37 pm

Hi Guys,

I am aspiring to study in Canada, but i am unsure about the process of applying for university and obtaining a visa for that purpose.

Can someone please advise me on how costly it will be to study in Canada, and fees for a medical degree, and how to go about the application process

study in canada is less expensive as compared to USA or UK or Australia.
tuition fees vary from university to university and similarly living expenses vary from city to city

Hi Obie,

My boyfriend is due to start a Masters degree in Canada in September, so I know a little about the process!

As nasirpk said, tuition fees are generally less expensive in Canada than other English speaking countries, and they will vary from university to university. The university websites will tell you how much the fees are. It is also worth applying early, as a lot of universities have scholarship funds that you may be eligible to apply for, too.

If you are a British citizen, you won't need a visa, but you will need a study permit. However, you can only apply for this once you get your final acceptance letter from the university. You can only apply for the study permit outside of Canada, so don't wait until you move over there before applying for one! And you will also need to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds in your bank account to pay for the university fees.

If it is an undergarduate degree that you are applying for, make sure that the Canadian university recognises your British educational qualifications (A Levels, GCSEs etc) - check the international students section on the university website.

Each university will have their own application requirements. For his course, my boyfriend had to submit 3 reference letters, the transcript from his university, a resume and a personal statement.

I hope this is useful! :)
