A word of warning regarding solicitors. They often claim to be experts but often aren't. Also price is not a good indication of quality either. The lawyer we took was the most knowledgeable, experienced in article 8/spouse visas and the cheapest too. It's worth quizzing them on recent case studies such as Judicial Reviews. Ask them what their opinion is of "such 'n such" case from a few months back (find a case which has set some kind of precedent). If they don't know about that case then chances are they aren't really an expert after all.
My solicitor's charges as follows:
250 for a reconsideration letter
1500 for a Judicial Review submission
500 for the barrister
pm me if you want my solicitors details. he's good but very busy and can take a while to complete stuff which I haven't liked. Still, the quality & result is what counts
