UK Work permit expiry

Hi all

I have a work permit issued on 22nd Jan last year 2008. I got my VISA stamped on the 22nd June 2008. The VISA is valid till 21 June 2010.

I have not even traveled once using the WP and VISA. But someone told me that the work permit becomes invalid in 6 months after it's date of issue if we have not traveled once? But I dont see anything of that sort on the workpermit backside.

Could you pls clarify?

My questions are

Is my work permit and VISA still valid?
If it is valid, how long is it valid?

There is no such concept that WP will expire if not used in 6months...

Your WP is valid as long as you work for that company which got ur WP and ur visa valid is not expired...

I just read the conditions governing the issue of the Work permit on the backside of WP.

3.C Ceases to be valid if not produced to the Immigration officer at the port of arrival in the UK within six months of the date of issue.

Can someone please clarify? Does this mean I will not be able to use it now even if the VISA is valid till next year?[/i]

It is not valid after six months, so you cannot use it to enter the UK:

Requirements for leave to enter the United Kingdom for work permit employment
128. The requirements to be met by a person coming to the United Kingdom to seek or take employment (unless he is otherwise eligible for admission for employment under these Rules or is eligible for admission as a seaman under contract to join a ship due to leave British waters) are that he:

(i) holds a valid Home Office work permit;

A person seeking leave to enter the United Kingdom for the purpose of work permit employment may be admitted for a period not exceeding the period of employment approved by the Home Office (as specified in his work permit), subject to a condition restricting him to that approved employment, provided he is able to produce to the Immigration Officer, on arrival, a valid United Kingdom entry clearance for entry in this capacity or, where entry clearance is not required, provided the Immigration Officer is satisfied that each of the requirements of paragraph 128(i)-(vi) is met.

I was really hoping the WP must be valid ...

I was a bit confused because my WP says

Date of Issue: 22 Jan 2008
Period Covered by Permit: 24 months from the date of leave to enter

Since my Visa was stamped only in June 2008 and valid till June 2010, I thought I would be still eligible to enter the UK.
