Seems to me he's more interested in 'trying his luck' to get back into UK on a fresh six month visa after he has managed to enter into a schengen state, rather than returning to the States! Well, NEWS FLASH!!!!... Even if he does manage to enter a schengen state, he is highly likely to be refused re-entry into UK not only because of his overstay, but also because one can only visit six months in every twelve!
